Good news and bad news…and a recommendation

Well, here it is — the good news is that I passed 500 miles for the month of April. One day left…although it’s supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow morning…and I topped 508 on tonight’s ride. I’m hoping to do this more often. It’s only the second time I’ve done over 500 in a month, but being so early in the season, I’m encouraged that I’ll get another month or two in this year.

But a bit of bad news: I was taking the ride tonight in part to get over 500, but also to check out a problem I was having with my rear hub assembly, and despite my efforts to fix it, the problem is still there. It’s not exactly a show-stopper — I’ll just have to swap out the wheel until I can have a professional look at it. Unfortunately, my backup wheel has a popped spoke, so I’ll have to fix that first. Which means I get to use my new spoke tension tool. So I guess there’s that.

Other than that, I’m having fun with Peloton too — I use it for stretching and core exercises, and now I’m going to start experimenting with some upper body stuff. At first I thought Peloton was just for stationary cycles or treadmills, but it’s got a lot of good stuff for strength and flexibility, and it’s like having a personal trainer available any time I have time. I’m really liking it, and even more as I learn the trainers who best fit my style and needs. I really feel refreshed after just a 10 minute session, and hope to expand that a bit more as I get in better shape. I’m also down to 170 (from 192 in February), and I’m certainly feeling the difference.
