Recommendation: Somebody Feed Phil

There’s certainly no shortage of food shows out there, and each of them have their special characteristics and quirks to capture an audience.  But I’ve stumbled upon one that’s been on Netflix for a couple of years (but only recently in Korea, and thus I’m late coming to it) that is just simply…simple: Somebody Feed Phil.

I absolutely love this show.  No gimmicks or quirks.  No food challenges or competitions. All we have is the host, Phil Rosenthal, traveling to cities around the world, meeting new people, making new friends, and sampling the cuisine along the way. While it may sound a bit plain, the absolute joy and warmth of Phil’s personality makes me feel like I’m right there with him.

And of course, while I’d love to be able to go there and share the experience, I know it’ll never happen.  So, this ability to make me feel included is such a special quality in something I can only watch from my living room.

I’m usually sparing when I rate something because I have a philosophy: if you rate everything a 10, then what happens when you finally come upon something better? Somebody Feed Phil is a show that allows me to go there without that reservation.  Give it a try.
